Why we made this show

Most conversations about AI are too loud or too quiet. Too loud — every announcement is “the future of work” and every tool is “the one.” Too quiet — entire industries pretend nothing has changed when everything is changing.

We think there’s a third register: plain, careful, honest. The kind of conversation a friend who works in your field would have over coffee. That’s what this show is.

Who this show is for

Anyone curious about working with AI. Not just engineers. Especially not just engineers. We talk to accountants, teachers, nurses, drivers, designers, social workers, and the people training them. The question we keep asking: what does this mean for the actual work people are paid to do?

What’s coming

A new episode every couple of weeks. Most are interviews. Some are explainers. Every episode has a full transcript on this site — because audio shouldn’t lock anyone out, and because transcripts are how you find what was said when you need it later.

How to listen

You can subscribe in any podcast app (Apple, Spotify, YouTube), or via the RSS feed at the top of this page. If you’d rather get an email when a new episode drops, the newsletter does exactly that and nothing else.

A note on FFPF

This show is made by Foundation for a Path Forward, a Canadian charity. One of our programs, PRIME, works with refugees and forcibly displaced people to land full-time work in Canada. The show is broader — we make it for anyone curious about AI in their work — but we think it’s worth saying who’s behind the microphone.

[00:00] Yusuf: Welcome to Careers in the Age of AI. I’m Yusuf, one of the co-founders of Foundation for a Path Forward, and this is episode one — the introduction.

[00:42] Yusuf: A few years ago, I started noticing the same conversation happening in different rooms. Refugees we work with were asking what AI meant for the jobs they were trying to land. Employers we partner with were asking what AI meant for the people they were trying to hire. Funders were asking us how we were thinking about all of this. And honestly, we needed to think about it more carefully ourselves.

[01:30] Yusuf: So this show is partly a public version of a conversation we were going to have anyway. The format is simple: we’ll talk to people doing the work, in a sector or a role, and ask the practical question — what’s actually changing day to day?
